Have you considered going with cute camisoles instead of actual bras? It has been a long time since I've been even a B cup though I remember occasionally going with snug tanks even at a C cup. Or really cute sports bras which might be easier to fit in some sense?

Yay cute underthings!

I haven't, but that's mainly because I like having support. Even at my size they bounce around and I don't like it. And since I fling myself around a fair bit with my acting activities it's not like I'm in a sedate enough situation for bouncing to not be an issue.
Sorry if I come across as snobbish. It's early morning where I am and my writing gets a bit ridiculous at times like this.

No worries, my motivation is usually social rather than comfort and I understand about having strong feelings about it!

Good luck coming to a good solution!

About using an extender, you can also get one of those clip things that make your straps more tank-style to help prevent them from falling, but then that only works for outfits that a tank-style bra would work for.

I don't have any suggestions, but that salesperson insisting you weren't an A was very rude! If they didn't have the size you were looking for, she should have just said so, or at the very least suggested alternatives (which do work for some people, but not everyone), rather than insisting you were wrong about your own body!

Problem is, most women don't actually know their bra size. They think they do, but they are wrong. The salesperson was rude to do so, but I have no qualms telling my friends that their bra size is wrong. 99.9% of the time, it is.

Mmm. I do get that, and I get that I don't look like I would be a 42A, but I reckon she could have been more tactful. "Are you sure? You don't look like an A. Maybe you should get a fitting done?" - it's really not that hard to be nice.

Well M&S does have a couple of (very boring) things in my size, sometimes. I think she probably was just thinking something like "you're an idiot, like most women who reckon they know their bra size but don't". Maybe I am wrong - I haven't worn a 42A in years, because I can't freakin' FIND them - but even if I am, yeah. Alternatives!

I hate the whole bra ordeal. My breasts are small as well.

One of my breasts is about a cup size smaller and I have a little fat roll under that breast that always pushes bras way up so the cup is always showing over whatever shirt I wear. It's so annoying to find a comfortable bra. I don't even remember what bra size I am because I buy them based on what sits the best on me. I never wear bras at home and I usually wear sports bras if need be unless I have to dress up and then I pull out whatever I have that sits the best with the clothes I'm wearing.

Anyway, good luck on the hunt for the elusive nicely fit bra! :)

are you able to shop online? fashion world has some in a 42 a, i just looked but i don't know if there is any you would like. i get my bras from there but i'm the opposite end of the spectrum at a 36 h.

i found that m&s have never been helpful with bras, i was told over many years by their bra fitters that i was a 42dd and they never fit but i didn't know why until i found a measuring guide online and did it myself.

*sorry i meant to make this its own comment* i shouldn't be allowed near the interwebs today.

Yeah, I've really never heard anything good about M&S bra fittings - they seem to be uniformly terrible at it. I haven't bothered getting fitted for years, I just try stuff on and see what size gives me a band that stays still, underwires that touch my chest and cups that don't cut in over the front or side of my breast. These days that tends to mean ordering a bunch of stuff online and sending it back, as few places have a reasonable selection of 40H bras on the rack, but at least I have bras to fit me now, which professional fittings haven't been able to give me since I was about thirteen.
