Boots Boots Boots

I know we've all seen a million boots posts, so I'm sorry to add to the melee, but what boots do you guys love best? I live in NYC so need to be able to walk around all day - so no heels for me!, and I have big ol'20 inch calves from doing that walking around all day. I've had great results with torrid in the past (the sizing is perfect for me - a ( Read more... )

I had really good luck with Payless boots-- it's a slouch boot and the style was Rory. IT comes in several colors, they are wide, and the calf fits me with room to spare. And my calves are big, too (I believe my calves were 18.5" last time I measured them). I would assume they're of comparable quality to the Old Navy Boots.

I second this! I have and love the Rory boots from Payless. I put my orthotics in them for more arch support and now they are great:)

Yep, this is what I came to say. I have wide feet and big calves and these boots fit awesomely. They also stretch out once you wear them a few times so there is more room for thick socks, jeans, etc.

Sadly, I almost always find ON footwear to be very very cheaply made. If you can return them for free (if you live near a store) it's worth ordering just to see, but it seems to be a losing proposition most times.

That's surprising! Not that seams split (unfortunately), but that they wouldn't take them back... when I worked at Old Navy, we basically had a "take everything back because it is better for everyone" approach. I once did a return on a pair of used kids swimming goggles, without a receipt!

I ordered a pair of sweatpants for my husband and when they arrived I threw them in the wash because he had two more of the same style so I didn't see any reason for him to try them on. When he went to put them on, they were wayyy too small. I checked the tags and they were what I ordered (L), but holding them up against another pair, they were several inches smaller in the waist, much narrower in the legs, and shorter.

I called to make sure there wouldn't be any problem exchanging them, because I mean they were obviously not a men's size large - there was some mix-up on ON's part there - but the customer service rep said I wouldn't be able to because I had washed them first.

I might have gotten better results had I gone in person to a store, but they closed the stores near me, which is why we were ordering these online in the first place.

I keep stuff in my shopping cart, but when I'm tempted to buy something I just think about that experience.

Do they have to be tall boots? I've pretty much given up on those until I can afford Duoboots, haha. But I did luck out a couple winters ago at Payless and found back knee high, riding boot-style boots. They were by Dexter. It's worth going and trying on some pairs. Also have you checked out Evans and Addition-elle? They both carry wide calf boots within your price range and some styles are made of real leather.

have you checked out the Duo Outlet?
www.duoboots.com/outlet
Simply Be has some really nice looking tallish boots but ugh. they don't ship to Canada or take Canadian Credit Cards so it's a world of suck trying to get an order through. the only downside for Duo much like anything else I have shipped into me gets dinged, really bad by Canadian Customs.

duoboots!
www.duoboots.com
they also have a sale section: www.duoboots.com/outlet

I have the Vine which is with a flat molded heel, and the Brindisi which is a low wood heel. I LIVE in them for winter/fall and sometimes spring.
I have just placed an order for the Malmo which is like the Vine but with no buckles. If Duo is too costly, you might want to try Evans or Simply Be.
Evan's has a mixture of Leather and Non leather boots in wide calf as does Simply Be- Simply Be has a US Site and UK site same to Evans. Style 369 pretty much stocks Evan's stuff so would be the same selection.

This. Have managed a shoe store for 20 yrs and these are the best I've found. You get what you pay for. If you're walking around all day, invest. You won't regret it.
