Torrid Jeans Price Increase? & Quick SimplyBe Sizing Question

Sep 27, 2012 10:58

SimplyBe: I'm planning to place my first order and was wondering if, just like Evans and ASOS- are the tops and dresses forgiving in size?

Torrid: So I'm beginning to see the plot unravel. They introduce the Broadway Ankle jeans to deter us from the increase of their Torrid brand skinny jeans!
But in all seriousness- I'm ticked off. Their jeans aren' ( Read more... )

I personally love Torrid jeans. I've had really good luck with the quality except with some old Source of Wisdoms, and they are often available in long inseams, which I need. I'd buy Torrid jeans more often if they weren't $58.50... ever since the prices got that high, I've waited for a sale before buying each pair. I can't help but wonder if they somehow weren't making enough profit from charging $58.50??
Oy vey...

The cost of materials, manufacturing and transport have gone up and thus have the cost of the items. Last year, sweaters at Lane Bryant averaged $59-$69 and this year they're averaging $69-$79 an item, for example. And I am more forgiving of Torrid than I am of, say, Maurices. I love their clothing (jeans, jeans, jeans omg, they only ones that fit right!) but the costs and a nigh lack of sales that are beyond 10%-20% off hinder my shopping tendencies.

ETA: Also, I've noticed that new Maurices denim have jumped from $39 to $69 in most cases. There's a huge jump if there ever was one.

I live in Canada and some of the jeans that I've been seeing (at Maurices) have been closer to $100. Some are now over 100. Wanted to buy a skirt from them a while ago, $85.

It looks like there's a BOGO50% sale so technically you could get two pairs for only $45 each. It's a bigger markup on an item that's already marked up 70% but maybe they will have better sales. Personally, I live in Canada and on top of paying $70 for a pair of Torrid jeans I have to pay $30+ in shipping fees so complaining about having to type in a code to get free shipping sounds ridiculous to me. (Also, to get decent plus-sized jeans here, our national chain of plus sized stores has a very limited selection of jeans styles that start at $50... they don't even sell skinny jeans.)

Yikes! Do you still buy items from Torrid even with the shipping fee? That's outrageous and I'm sorry. I'm only disgruntled with the shipping code because my only income comes from my work-study position at school, so I want to try and save as much as possible (student + plus size = suuuucks). If you use the free shipping code, you can't use the 10% off even when all I needed was a pair of black jeans for a bday party.

yep. this entirely.
going to addition elle to get jeans will set you back $70 before taxes (and i find their jeans super awful to begin with)
Torrid never offers free shipping to Canada, and so while I will order several things, I have to pay tax/duties on top of everything else.

if I could get jeans or anything for that matter that fit me as well as the sophia jeans do here in Canada for $60? I'd be happy.

They now have designer jeans which run up to $130. They do have black skinny jeans, two brand names. One's $79 and the other one is $130. I don't even know what kind of market they're trying to sell for now. Unusually wealthy thirty year-old office workers? They used to have a few cool things with their MXM line but even that's changed. Their house brand jeans don't last any longer than Walmart jeans and those only set me back $25-$30.

I only bought from Torrid once. My order was $120 with shipping plus I was charged $50+ for duties and extra handling fees because they use DHL for international shipping. Now I try to find Torrid items on eBay instead because regular people charge reasonable bloody shipping costs. Luckily I'm going to Buffalo in November and I shall be spending a good amount of time at LB, Torrid and Target.

For good skinnies I whole-heartedly recommend Asos. Their jeans run about $50, they have free international shipping on everything and their pants last and fit well. (if a bit on the large side)

ia about Torrid being out of touch with their consumer base. I stopped buying their jeans a long time ago. They're just too expensive, even at the previous price before the increase!

Everything I've ordered from Simply Be has run large (long cardigan, leggings and...a dress I think?)

Seconded. I think occasionally one of the more structured pieces will run true to size, but I'd say they generally run a little big -- 1/2 to 1 size big on overage.
