Avenue sizing change?

So I went to The Avenue tonight. I look at the jeans and notice they have like a zillion different styles (Like, Hollywood Skinny, Santa Fe Bootcut, etc). I try on my usual size, which is 16. I couldn't get them past my knees. Long story short, I had to buy a size 22 for them to feel remotely comfortable. I think I tried on every style, same thing ( Read more... )

I just bought 2 pairs of jeans and a skirt from Avenue online, and normally their size 26 pants fit just fine. Now it's too tight! I was kind of expecting it from the the skirt (non-stretchy fabric), but not the jeans.

Wow, that's quite a jump. We don't have an Avenue out here (that I've seen), but I've had that happen to me at other stores and I know that feeling of total and utter frustration. Like, wtf! I came here to try on 1-2 pairs of pants, not go on a size search and end up trying on 203840932849023849023. I'm a busy mom. I don't want to try on stuff in the store at all (because I usually have kids in tow) but if I must, I'd much rather it be less than more.

Well....at least you found something?

Oh yeah, I'm grateful to have gotten the jeans, don't get me wrong:)

I just feel for the people who order online, purchasing in their normal size and possibly getting bottoms that are now several sizes too small. Many people don't have Avenue stores close by where they can just return their orders. I feel it's going to be an Old Navy-type situation.

Oh totally. And it's SUCH a PITA to return things you have purchased online.

This is why I gave up on denim (except maternity from Gap in a size 20 that I am 99.9% sure will fit and if not I can return it to a Gap Store). It's too hard to fit me, I don't have the patience. Maxi skirts and wide leg pants, FTW!

Yeah, I find the Gap to be pretty consistent in their sizing. I think whenever I have to buy jeans again, I'll hit up the Gap Outlet:)

I have the opposite effect. I've bought jeans this year and the year before...they are all huge. My regular size 24 were falling off me, so I got a 22 online. Still big. I know I could pull a 20 in their bottoms and I haven't been that size in 13 years when I was 50lbs lighter.

Interesting. Hmm...

I bought jeans from there in my size about a year ago, nice fit (I think it was the Perfect Boot). Now they seemed to have gotten rid of those and replaced them with a new denim line that is super small.

I think you're right. I went into an Avenue today and bought some jeans (the Broadway Straight) in my usual size and they are even a bit snug, more so than the same size in LB jeans, and the LB jeans are sized a bit smaller! so frustrating...

It's a good thing I decided to try them on! I usually grab my size and that's it.

I think you're correct. I have bottoms from a few seasons ago that are roomy and a size 14, but I've tried on size 18 pants there recently that are tight.

I've experienced drastic sizing anomalies in Avenue. The first time I visited an Avenue store I was buying an 18/20, which corresponded exactly with my UK size. However, three years ago, when I visited friends in the US again, I'd dropped about 7lbs and was down a dress size. I bought several dresses from Avenue in different styles but was had to size up to a 22/24 in all of them. 't'was a puzzlement.
