I am by no means a dress expert, LOL, as I can never find ones that fit me right. But my suggestion would be to find a dress that maybe has some sort of cinch under the bust, so it gives the allusion of a waist. I think that's probably the best shape dress that would give you the appearance of more of an hour glass figure, even if you don't technically have one.

Maybe something like that style?
That is a cute dress though! And I like the sandals :)

I think I'm hesitant about those little ribbon belts because I end up thinking I look like I'm a parcel tied with a piece of string. But that's probably the direction I should be going with, even if that isn't it exactly.

The sandals are from Avenue, and have proven to be very versatile...I wear them with jeans a lot, as well as the occasional dress.

Nobody says you have to wear the skinny little ribbon belt just because it cones with the dress. Replace it with a more substantial belt and no more parcel with string effect. I do this all the time.

i love the dress on you! the mod style works on you, and i think that if it were a bit less, well, full, and hit a bit closer to the hips, you would like the shape and how you look in it better as it would be less barrel shaped and show off your hips a bit, if that makes sense.(i had this issue in the past)

as for shoes, i used to have a great wide shoe source bookmarked, but i lost it when apple gave me a branded new computer. i know i got it from fats, so i am hoping some other shoe lover will pipe up with what it is, as i would love to have it again because i like to send my mil and sil shoes!

I bought the dress for the pattern - I work in a Phillip Johnson building from 1963, and I stand around in the Great Hall and look like I belong!

I will have to bookmark that post as well, because I need more options than just Zappos and Avenue.

I LOVE that dress! The answer you're looking for is BELTS. I carry my weight in my middle, so I generally put a belt under my bust and I think it adds a real element of fit and shape, and looks more put together. I used to be terrified of skirts because I couldn't figure out what to do with them on my body. The answer is hike 'em up and add a belt! I felt kind of weird the first time I wore something high-waisted, but I get a lot of compliments, even from strangers, when I wear skirts like that. If you're uncomf with the idea of belts with buckles you may like this belt: http://embellish-plus-boutique.myshopify.com/collections/belts/products/black-wrap-belt... )

I just started exploring belts about six months ago, and my first act was to do this:

I don't have specific shoe suggestions, but I think that any of the styles you listed could work with the dress. I wear a 12 wide and feel your pain on the difficulties of finding cute shoes. I check out style blogs; the shoes of the person sitting next to me on the bus; magazines - really anywhere for inspiration.

I like the dress on you. I think the style - kind of a shift dress - can read as barrel-esque on many body shapes, which isn't a bad thing in my book. Have you tried belting it? It sounds like you want some more definition to your shape, and belting might work. I also don't have much of a defined waist and like belting up high, under my boobs. If you like the style, you could try looking for shifts that have more of an a-line cut. Maybe also try some dresses that are more tailored - in fact I would say try on a ton of dresses until you figure out what you like and what you think looks good to you :)

I haven't tried belting it because A) I'm still a little intimidated by Belt-Fu and have only just started attempting to deploy one (see above photo) and B) I wasn't sure if it would break up the pattern and look goofy. I may give it a try, though. I love the dress, and don't want to be suddenly self-conscious about how I look in it just because I've gotten it into my brain that it doesn't look good on me.

Not a helpful comment, but seriously loled picturing you walking around wearing Kleenex boxes strapped to your feet. I hope you don't have to resort to that!!

My poor mother, who was the one to try and keep me shod as a child, used to say that if my feet kept growing she'd have to resort to Kleenex boxes. And then my sister came along, and she's four inches taller than me and has even bigger feet!
