The airline you are flying can make all the difference in the world as far as the actual flying experience is concerned. I've mostly flown JetBlue in the past few years (domestically), and the staff has always been incredible, from check-in to the flight (ok, I realize that sounds incredibly cheesy or something, but they're pretty awesome

I don't have much to say, but I've had to ask for a seat belt extender numerous times. I'm always so nervous to do so, but everyone on multiple airlines have been so very kind about it. One flight attendant even apologized to me because "the seat belts are ridiculous."
Sorry you had such a shitty experience. I honestly hate flying in America; it's not like flying anywhere else in the world. border security in australia is, i'd wager, the toughest in the world. i'm a citizen and i've been pulled aside... not that I would want any special treatment for being a citizen or anything. They do good work, but it's scary stuff, going through Australian border security.
it's a sad thing that non-whites get treated more harshly. Is the TSA the American version? I've not had any experience with them, so I'll take your word for it.
That sounds like a horrible previous experience. I'm also not a fan of being touched, although fortunately for me I only get freaked out when I'm touched by men so searches aren't really a problem, but yeah, I do understand how you feel, to an extent

I'm a similar size and fly quite often. I get nervous about it as well but it has all worked out just fine for me so far. I sometimes need a seatbelt extender and sometimes don't
