I've seen so many of you with great hair, and hope you could help me out! I'd like to try something shorter than what I have right now, and I've made the stylist appointment and everything.

I'm afraid of ending up with a bowl cut or having helmet head...Help!  My hair is thick, and sometimes wavy when it's long.   All I do with it is wear it in a ( Read more... )

I was always nervous to cut my hair short because I subconsciously hiding behind my hair, then when I decided to go back to my natural color after years of trying every color under the sun my stylist pretty much told me I had to chop off 6 inches if I wanted the stripped and lightened hair to be healthy, then 3 months later when my color was taking over I opted to stay short... p.s. I have really really thick wavy hair that usually costs me double to have done at the salon and a chubby face with a hair cut similar to the photo you posted and I love it, though I do have to style it everyday with a flat iron.

Thanks for the advice. I don't know how much of my hair is healthy, so that might have something to do with how short I get it cut.

I think your hairstyle in your icon (assuming it's you...) is really cute! Hmmm, I don't own a flat iron, though. Thanks for giving me something to think about!

I have a part in the middle of my forehead and I have bangs. I've managed to tame the part with a bit of hairspray and a blowdryer. Ask your hairstylist to explain what they're doing as they're styling it after the cut. Make sure to tell them if you're a low maintenance type of person or not. They should be able to customize the style to how much work you're willing to put into it everyday.

Thanks! :) I think I need to pay more attention to how the hairsytlist styles my hair after it's cut, since that seems to be the key to getting that kind of style to look good.

I love the "5 years ago" shot. I think that hairstyle is very cute on you and not too dissimilar to the pic you posted. It also has more personality than longer hair. I think that style would look great on you.

Thanks for the input. :) I was worried that the round-ness of the cut would somehow puff up and I'd look like I have a salad bowl on my head.

I think you would look great with a cut like the last picture!

Yay! Thanks for the little extra boost of confidence. :) I'll post pics of it once my hair is cut.

My face is shaped very much like yours (somewhere between very oval and round), and I also have a natural part right in the middle. My hair was cut almost exactly like the last picture a couple of years ago. I loved it, but got tired of having to get it cut all the time to keep it chin-length. Now it's the same style, but I let it go to shoulder-length (longer in the cold months). I wish I had a picture, but I don't! :(
Angling the hair towards the chin to frame your face is an excellent look for our face-shape, and the key to the look is angling the bangs, too -- if you cut them straight across and EVER fail to tame your hair into a side-part, you'll have a very 1920s bob, like Catherine Zeta-Jones' in Chicago. Some people might love this retro look, but me, not so much. With angled bangs, you can get lazy about your center-part as it grows and still look just as cute.

Aww, nuts, I wish you had a picture. :( I think part of the reason I'm scared to cut it off is that it'll look like a 1920's bob...but I'm glad you said that you said angled bangs helped prevent it...I'm thinking about getting may hair cut cut shoulder length, I can always go shorter later!
