Thirded! Your main consideration is going to be the actual fiber content of the fabric, and Dharma will tell you everything you need to know from there. Great site. Have ordered from them a few times.

I've had the best luck with dylon dyes... but please follow ALL instructions
get jeans very wet first, make sure you have plenty of water and dye and agitate agitate agitate. or you'll have streaks and blotches. probably not the look you want!

Just to add - check the weight of the fabric. Jeans are heavy, and you may need more dye than you think.

I've been told a good soaking in a vinegar/water mixture will help set your color after dying... I can't speak to the effectiveness of such a trick though as I am not very familiar with dying. :\
