New Large-cup lingerie store in LA and online

May 29, 2009 20:42

I saw this posted on Manolo for the Big Girl: http://www.jenettebras.com/

From what I saw, there were only a few bras with band sizes beyond 40, but it's another resource for smaller fats/inbetweenies with large cup sizes.

online shopping, underthings, bras

I wear a 40G/H so I clicked through, but so many of the bras don't even go to 40. :( Of course I'm used to my bras being hard to find, but I would love that site so much more if they #1 had a search by size feature, and #2 showed the backs of the bras. At least some of these look suspiciously like bras that are made for people who have had breast augmentation. And by that I mean... these look like they have big giant cups, but thin strappy (back-fat enhancing) bands and skinny (shoulder denting) straps.

I don't mean to be entirely negative though! I appreciate your post and although *I'm* suspicious most of these bras won't work for ME, people who need less support might love them.

Oh, I agree. It's too bad they are so limited. I would hope that they would be open to expanding their options. IT's worth a shot for the locals.

I do see what you mean about it being geared toward boob jobs, but I have a friend with a G cup and a 32 band, and she is all natural, so they are out there! But I bet she would be annoyed with unsupportive straps, too.

I completely agree! I just meant that I suspect natural breasts usually need more support (and probably wider bands/straps) than artificial ones. However, my age is greater than my band size - so again... maybe it's just me. :D

I suspect you are right. Although, the more I think about, it seems like you would want to be extra careful to protect your expensive boobies from any harm (or "harm," I am thinking of stretch marks). So then a very supportive bra would be necessary.

Interesting that their store is on Melrose Ave. Most of the stores in that part of town specialize in overpriced, cheaply made clubwear. There *is* a Crossroads Trading Co. on Melrose, but when I took some fashionable plus size clothing there to sell a few years back, they wouldn't buy them, and told me they don't sell plus sizes. Same with the Aardvark's vintage store at the other end. They don't stock plus sizes either. Also, real estate is not cheap on Melrose and I've seen many a store last a year or two, only to be knocked down by high rents and not enough foot traffic. I hope Jenette Bras is able to keep going (their online sales should help with that), but based on the history of 'speciality' stores on Melrose, I'd be surprised if they last longer than 2 years.

Maybe they'll move somewhere more low rent?
I think I have been to that Crossroads, and yeah, shitty selection (not just the lack of plus sizes, either, I think they just have shitty buyers!)

That's what I was thinking. It's hard to find low rent storefronts in LA in popular areas (Montana Avenue in Santa Monica is another one, or Third Ave. in Park La Brea), but I'm sure they could find something if they look around. Real estate is a lot less expensive in the SF Valley, so I'm sure they could find something along Ventura Blvd. (the main drag through the Valley) that's reasonable.
