I hear all you ladies on the back pain! In my case it was compounded by my breasts being mostly glandular tisue and the right several times larger than the left. I was actually developing scoliosis from the difference in the weight of my breasts.
I had my surgery at 21. Worth. Every. Penny. I went down from a 40 to a 38 band size, and from a D cup on the left to a C (not a reduction, just a lift-and-tighten), and from an H cup to a C/D on the right. I wanted B cups at the time, but what the hey, a 40C is what I have today, and I now love my girls just as they are.
I would recommend that for a couple of months after the stitches are removed you not wear any underwire bras, and if you can get a very stretchy cami or tank to wear under the new bras, do so. Chafing on the fresh scars was very much an issue for me.
I have nothing to add except that I'm watching this thread like a hawk, as I, too, am seriously considering reduction from an H cup to a D/DD. Please report back to Fatshionista about the surgery!
I'm thinking it'll be way easier to find bras in a D or DD than an H. Any store that sells bras carries them, it won't need to be a plus size store. I am a 40D and I mainly get mine at mall department stores like JC Penny's, and I recently bought some that are super comfortable really cheap at Walmart.
