Seattle fats?

Apr 16, 2009 16:03

Hey there. This is my first time posting here... though I've thought about it a million times and I love lurking.

So... I have a bra question. I just moved to Seattle and I am 8 1/2 weeks pregnant. I've always worn obscure bra sizes, like 42B. This is not very easy to find, especially when I am cheap and want to pay ten bucks for a bra at Target. ( Read more... )

Have you looked at Decent Exposures? She's local and you can go there to be fitted. The bras are sports-bra types but that's way way comfortable.

[My info may be out of date, it was a while back that I went to her house and tried stuff on in her bedroom, the little kid that was crawling around on the floor in a turtle costume is probably in college by now.]

I'm a 42 D to DD and I love Lane Bryant bras. And the ladies at the Northgate store are nice...I know that's not that much help...but that's the best I've been able to do around here.

I hope this doesn't come off as a shameless plug, but I just wrote a blog post on plus-size nursing bras: http://bigmamastyle.blogspot.com/2009/04/nursingin-style.html

Maternity bras, to me, are kind of bullshit because your boobs, big as they seem at 8.5 weeks, will get bigger and bigger. I started pregnancy as a 40D, and ended a 44DDD. There is no bra that accommodates that much growth and still holds the boobage up. I found that I had to rotate between underwire (for the support) and soft cup (because my boobs were sooooooo sore! and also I needed to wear a bra to bed so I wasn't in excruciating pain). I found some Cacique soft cup bras at a Lane Bryant Outlet store, but you could also just buy nursing bras since you will probably need them post-preg anyway (if you plan to nurse). Hope this helps.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!

They aren't /cheap/ exactly, but Bravado nursing bras were totally my go-to bra when I was nursing my twins. They've added a bunch of other styles since then, but I just used the Bravado Original Nursing Bra, which was excellent for my changing body. It's sort of built like a sports bra, in that it goes over your head and has a wide elastic band, but the cups are separate (no mono-boob!) and I believe are a stretchy cotton-blend.

The result is, the sizing is really forgiving and can support you even as your body changes. Also, for all that they weren't cheap, mine really stood up to some harsh treatment, so imho they were a good value overall.

If you plan to nurse anyway, I'd say give the Bravados a try even now. Though you might want to just try one or two at first - pregnancy is a strange thing and it's hard to say how your body is going to adapt to all the changes ahead.

Congrats again!!

I second the recommendation of the Bravado bras. I just purchased two of the Body Silk ones from the lactation consultant at the hospital, and they're fantastic. I went from a 40/42 DD to an H after my son was born a few weeks ago, and these are so comfortable. Also, they come in black and red, so you're not strictly confined to white and beige. I would have totally worn Bravado while I was pregnant. I paid $45 each for these, and they're worth it for sure. The sizing is also pretty forgiving, so they might be a good choice for now, since your body will change a lot over the next several months.

Congratulations!! :)

I agree with Nordstrom (in Bellevue Square) being your safest and best bet. I got *properly* fitted there for the first time and the sales/fitting lady was *very* helpful in finding the different styles I wanted/needed--she knew which brands ran large and/or small. They had a very wide selection, too. And I have a very-hard-to-find size (in straight-size stores and plus-size stores)! It was a pleasant surprise.
