so what about the post where someone disabled comments which effectively deleted an entire communities worth of comments? that seems to fall under both the new and old rules and should be a bannable offense, right?
This was actually a big source of discussion. Evidently disabling comments no longer deletes the comments in question, it just hides them. I'm assuming this is new on LJ, since I also thought disabling comments deleted everything as well, but a test post has revealed that once comments are re-enabled the missing posts are still there.
As for the specific post referenced, the person in question will receive an official warning today; if they do it again they will be banned.
Since we're talking about rules here: can we please get one on tag use? Such as "your post should have a tag"? There are a number of posts on topics such as airline seats which would easily be answered if people used the darned tags.
Heck as it is, this post was only tagged with fatshionista! and I just tagged it with moderator posts as well.
I feel like the "demonstrating a consistent failure to conduct oneself with respect toward other members" rule seems to be applied only to members without a long history in the community or who have good connections. I seem to remember a post involving a certain store's service involving very disrespectful comments from one member and she was not reprimanded because they weren't "personal attacks" as the mod team put it but now suddenly this rule is being put forward and only certain people are being disciplined under it. Is there a reason why this dichotomy exists or are we just pretending it doesn't?
Not the original commenter and I might just be connecting julieannie's description with this post because I was involved, but this is the one that jumped to my mind.
OH, now I remember. If the party being referenced is elusis, she is no longer a member of this community, so it's a moot point. But thanks for the link! I was completely baffled for a few minutes there.
