homemade skinny pants!

Nov 15, 2008 19:58

I have an ass to waist ratio that is sometimes hard to find in jeans, and I mulled over the possibility of buying skinny jeans for a while. Then it occurred to me that I have four pairs of jeans that fit me already... why not employ my handy Singer?

Thanks! This has totally inspired me to keep my sewing machine out and do some more alterations.

Thank you! And yeah, my sewing machine is my baby - she sews better with just her straight stitch than any other machine I've ever used.

Damn I should do that with my Right fit pants. I was pissed LB doesn't do a straight or skinny leg in blue. I can do it myself! awesome

It's so easy! This is how I did it:

- put pants on inside out
- had friend pin them down very tightly, making sure the excess fabric was evenly distributed on both sides of the seam I was removing (if that makes sense)
- took them off, used light colored marker to draw a line for the seam
- sewed, tried on.

I found that the first time I didn't get them quite tight enough, so you may have to take in the legs a little more from the initial estimate.

It makes sense. So did you cut the excess out? the only thing I'm wondering about is seam treatments. Thinking about doing it sucks.

I did cut the excess out. Then I went over the seam again (my machine only does straight stitch, but at 20 sts/inch I figured that was ok). If you're concerned about fraying, that no-fray spray works pretty well.
