Bra Shop

Can anyone in NJ (preferably North or Central) or NYC recommend a good bra store to get a fitting? I have been to many and experienced rude or unknowledgeable employees. At this point, I am willing to drive about an hour from my house as long as I can get a good fitting and some nice bras. I'm looking for suggestions here, because I would ( Read more... )

Lady Grace is usually pretty good; they're owned by Victoria's Secret, so there should be one near you.

I've had good luck at Intimacy in NYC (Upper East Side). One of my friends had a good experience at TownShop, but I've never been there and I've heard mixed reviews.

Lee Lee's, in Brooklyn, also does bra fittings and has some really nice bras in stock, though they don't have the same selection as the larger stores.

I had a good experience at, I think it was, TownShop. I went on to find a long line strapless for my wedding dress but came out with several other things. I weighed abt 275 then but the sales woman never made me feel weird or commented on my weight. She looked at me in my clothes, put me in a room, and came back with a handful of bras. It's been a while, but I think she also also might have touched the bras while I was in them and either been in the room or right outside (I didn't consider it creepy--it was very impersonal but I mention it in case you might dislike that kind of thing--she was very professional.) She was really accurate with the sizing and also did not blow off the issue that every one else blows off--my boobs are radically different sizes. (And this is where I traditionally hear the chorus of "But every one's are different sizes!") She looked at me, acknowledged the major difference (over a cup size) and suggested some ways to deal with it. Overall, I was very happy.

I highly recommend Lingerie by Susan, in Edison, NJ.

A good friend of mine (and recently my matron of honor) has gone to the shop for years, and recently took me there to get lingerie for my wedding. The owner, Susan, was wonderful, as were the members of her staff. I'm actually hoping to get back there sometime in the next few months to get a regular bra or two. They know women's bodies and how to properly fit a bra, and have a great stock. They have a website, Lingerie by Susan, which includes their address (on the "about us" page) and some of the things they stock.

With regard to how they treat customers, my MoH -- who's always been pleased by the shop's service -- is large overall *and* has a very large bust (I'm not sure what her actual sizes are, but she's way past DDD). I'm smaller on top, but short-waisted and still large overall (wearing size 22 or 24). They found items to fit us both, and to fit us *well*.

I hope you give them a try, and that they're as good for you!

Get thee to a Nordstrom, if there's one close to you. I went to the flagship in Seattle when I was there on a business trip a couple of weeks ago and they were fantastic!

I had a bad experience at a nearby Nordstrom. The woman was rude and not helpful.

That's not the norm. I'm sorry your experience was crappy. :(

Good luck finding a place to get fitted. Why does it have to be so hard to get fitted for one of the essential pieces of a woman's wardrobe? :/
