Anyone else noticed a weird phenomenon in some environmental rights circles? Like, it's okay to equate planetary/environmental abuse and various evils with being a "fat, greedy American?"
I speak specifically about a bumper sticker I saw in a catalog for one of my fave companies, Northern Sun. For anyone unfamiliar, it's a terrific, small company with zillions of wonderful buttons, T-shirts, bumper stickers in a huge variety of causes. The catalog is great "reading room" material.
The bumper sticker in question was in the environmental section, and it says, "Plants and animals disappear to make room for your fat ass." My question is ... is this a common theme in the environmental movement?
The company itself is great - they have a T-shirt that reads, "If the definition of beauty gets any thinner, no one will fit." I will be sure to mention I think it's disappointing they carry this particular bumper sticker when I place my next order.
I'd think it was isolated, except my boyfriend just got a T-shirt with a Hummer spewing toxic skull clouds. The company? "Fat American."
Hmmm .... am I going prematurely conspiracy theory or is there something to this?
