( he has a little girl, you know, who he adores. but sometimes he forgets even the smallest things. all because he loses his nerve. )

It's the last line that hits me hardest, though;
It takes a glance at the calendar. Remember, the trash comes today.
and pinning with a random magnet the construction paper he finds, crinkled - God. Image.

Oh Toby. Yes, this is SO him. Particularly how Pam threw him a huge bone ("Where have you been? I've been looking forward to hanging out with you all night!") and all he really sees is that she's "rejecting" his gift... You got that, all in 200 words!
