Hi there, fellow NaNoer *waves* and I'm a bit late with this but some viruses can make a pc switch off. Is this a possibility?. My hubby does a lot of downloading on his pc and has this problem sometimes. What anti virus do you use? Is it up to date and have you run it lately?
Thanks. :) Hope I haven't caught another virus, cos I had to reinstall my computer last year, from a virus that restarted the computer from now and again, and stopped the anti-virus software from updating. I think it's switching off due to overheating, but cleaning the fan hasn't worked. Propping it up on a pile of books seems to make things better...
Does your laptop just shut down or do you get a countdown box giving you a minute or 30 secs warning? If so it could be the NT virus, easy enough to fix. Otherwise, giving the whole inside a good clean as advised by poppithefenling above may sort the fan out. Did you try that yet? If it's the fan/ heatsink you need to get it sorted before it blows the processor.
