So after translating the novels I need to note down what exactly OCCURED between the time Ted first met Tir (when he was a child), what happened that we KNOW of during the years until he met Tir 300 years later, and what happened when he killed himself for my own reference. Ted!

IIRC Konami retconned the "lost the rune for a while" before Suiko IV came out - then I figured they brought it back in and the "lost" part was when the Fog Ship happened. I'd have to do some searching to find the link for the retconning. Let me go look.

See, about all that, they did kind of say something that suggested that true rune holders could age until their rune wanted them to stop or. whatever. IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WELL THIS WAY :/ Oh yes this was just after Suiko III came out, right.

I always had the idea that, unlike the manga, which wasn't out at the time, Sasarai and Luc were created at their respective age, which was the same as Hikusaak's visible age, and that Ted aged up from baaabyted to Ted after he got recruited by the fog ship captain...

...this is so confusing. But since they suggest that the true rune holders age to an appropriate age, it's probably the case? And yeah I think the manga retconned your idea, because Konami seems to be saying it's psuedo-canon (obviously there are differences from the games like there is in the novels). And I'm pretty certain konami DOES talk to the authors about stuff.

Also the image of baby Ted being around for more than 50 years, at least? Saddens me :(
