The sun was just clearing the horizon, the morning air crisp and cool on his skin. He closed his eyes briefly, trying yet again to collect his thoughts. Yet again he didn't succeed. He watched as a flock of birds took flight, flying in formation across the sky, their calls carrying in the early dawn quiet. With his powers returned he was once again able to travel with a thought. His mind may be in turmoil, but the returned strength of his wings was a comfort he revelled in.

He had spent the last few days teleporting almost constantly, his frequent and directionless travelling echoing the randomness of his thoughts. He had been everywhere yet nowhere in particular. Spending a moment in the mountains of Scotland where he had a brief bout of peace before conflicting thoughts and emotions had crashed in on him again. With almost each new thought he teleported from one isolated destination to another.

He had spent time in heaven over the weeks since he had left Dean. Yet each time he returned there, he felt constrained, alienated. It was his home yet he felt more out of place there then he ever had before. He had always been different, but had felt comforted and at peace there. He had changed over the last two years though, more than he had in the millennia before that.

He had been relieved when he had been resurrected with his powers and had been able to return home. Yet when he got there, it no longer felt like home. He realised he had started spending more and more time in his random travels on earth. With that thought he teleported again, no destination in mind.

He appeared in an empty parking lot. He didn't know why he had travelled here. He looked around, for the first time in what seemed like weeks he felt the stirring of curiosity in his surroundings. He noticed a motel across the street. His head tilted as he felt a familiar presence. Without thinking he teleported again, appearing in room 37.

He remained silent, watching, his thoughts more settled then they had been in weeks. He had been teleporting randomly, but now as he stood in the motel room he realised there had only ever been one destination.

Green eyes beneath messy hair opened, seemingly unperturbed at Castiel's presence in his room.
"Dean," he said quietly.
"Cas," Dean replied, an unconscious smile on his lips in his sleep addled state.
