Here is another sampling from “A Treasury of Great Recipes” by Vincent and Mary Price.

This one was not on the original short list, but this is just too good not to share now. It’s warm, filling and comforting.  Perfect for winter or a sinus infection.

From the Rivoli (still extant) in Mexico City, I give you:

Sopa Poblano

Serves 4

1 tbsp vegetable oil

I think you'd have to saute the living **** out of a fresh poblano to get the right flavor for that soup. I agree with the use of the canned ancho! I make something pretty close to this soup fairly frequently (we have a lot of home frozen corn) and it really is warming and filling. I use a small amount of cumin in it.
