not disagreeing with anything else except that the western society is probably the most accepting of overweight individuals, or being overweight, of all developed/developing/about-to-become-developing countries.

mmm tv shows would be one example i suppose. In Taiwan, there is a travel show where an overweight girl travels around Taiwan with a fit boy and they introduce the local activities and foods. I watched about an hour of it, and the guy would make a fat joke every five minutes. For example, they introduced a chocolate boutique, and he constantly said "oh i'm surprised you haven't finished all of it before i seated," or "erm..you've got chocolate on you lips again." I suppose it's just marketing since she does get a bit of fame from the show, and most people know here as "the fat celeb"(cos' there aren't many in Asia). But a plot like that in US would have never taken off

i actually think all of those would easily be popular shows in the United States. particularly they might become reality tv shows of some kind. :P

have you ever seen shows like Married with Children? fat women are ALWAYS the joke.
