I post this story every year because it is what I believe is, or should be, the spirit of the holiday. It is the essence of what all of us really want, regardless of our origins or our politics.

We want to be connected; we want to matter. We want what we do to make a difference to the people in our lives; we want people in our lives who also want to make a difference.

Personally, I think it's pretty great that this is integral to human nature.
