Title: Gravity-Defying House (Chapter 2/6)
Rating: I don't know... teen?
Pairing/characters: Dean/Cas, Sam, Bobby, Gabriel, a surprise character, an OC that I absolutely needed for plot and, you know, a baby. Mentions of Balthazar, Joshua, Jimmy and others.
Spoilers: Blanket for all aired eps.
Warnings/Kinks (aren't they the same?): MPREG!, established relationship, Gabriel is back from the dead, awesome!Sam, there WILL be some early stages of labour, but then it fades-to-black, mentions of sexual situations, there's some gender-bending at first, schmoop (no, really), angst (no, really), crack/humour, the baby isn't welcomed at first and notions of ending the pregnancy are entertained. ANGELS ARE DICKS! Like, really. Even Cas is going to be a complete SOB at first. Happy ending.
A/N: Author notes and list of people to blame are on the first post.
Summary: He's going to be an uncle. Sure, this is not the way he ever thought it would happen, but still: their lives. Stranger things have happened.
Chapter 1 Dean is sitting at the kitchen table. Sam, Bobby and Cas are looking at him, but even if he isn't looking back at them, his air of defiance is pretty obvious. Gabriel shifts in his seat somewhere to Sam’s left and coughs.
"So, Mazel tov?"
That earns him a glare from Cas that Sam is pretty sure can be translated as 'please shut up and die.' Sam sighs.
"Dean, be reasonable. Please!"
Gabriel snorts. This time Cas' glare is saying something along the lines of 'I'm not sure if it's possible because you're an archangel, but I'm going to smite you right now!' Gabriel seems to understand, because he goes still.
Things were good for Sam and Dean right now. Like, really good. They saved the world over two years ago, everybody that went to the Pit that apparently didn't deserve to go there (that meant Sam) was back on earth (or Heaven in Adam's case). Dean hadn’t lived the apple-pie life with Lisa as he had promised, but at least things were going somewhere with Cas. They were hunting, like they always did. And mostly monsters of the kind they had met before, so no surprises there.
Yes, things were good.
Then his brother, his very male brother, got pregnant.
Worse. His very male brother decided he’s going to have the baby he is carrying.
"Dean…" Why is he the only one talking? Dean is sitting there, looking determined, while Bobby keeps removing his cap, running his hand through his hair and putting his cap back on. Save for the couple of glares towards Gabriel, Cas looks as stony as ever. "Dean, you're not thinking straight. I can't let you…"
"And what are you going to do about it, Sammy?"
And that's when it hits him. Sam knows that look in his brother's eyes. He's seen it way too many times, whenever Sam was in danger. It's the same look Dean gives to whatever is menacing Sam. Only this time is directed at him.
And that's how Sam knows that this is no longer a matter of talking Dean out of it.
"Listen," he can't believe he's about to do this. "Gabriel, you said that Dean's body didn't change back completely to protect the baby, right? And just how much didn't it change to protect Dean through this?"
Gabriel winces. Really, things were so good.
"I don't know?"
Cas lets out a low growl, shifting his weight on his legs, nostrils flaring.
"Turn him again, Gabriel," Cas' voice sounds like that low rumble that comes right before an earthquake. Not even Dean protests at what he's saying. "A female body is prepared for this in a manner a changed male body isn't, no matter what."
"I don't think I can do that, little bro."
"Why not?" Sam snaps. He then takes a deep breath, because he has the feeling that he's the only sane one there and it won't do if he loses it. "You did it before and you were going to do it again!"
"When I did it there was no baby and then I just reversed the spell that hadn't effected it. And I was going to do it again to end it, not…"
"Yeah," Dean interrupts him. "Not if I'm keeping it. He doesn't know how it would affect the baby."
"What he said. Really, Sam? You're supposed to be the smart brother?"
It's Sam's turn to glare at Gabriel.
"Cas," Dean says, giving him a hopeful look. "You're here. If something goes wrong, you can take care of it, right? And you can help with the pain and everything?"
"I guess…" Cas brings his hands to his head, like he has a migraine or when the Host is calling him. Sam looks at him, waiting: Gabriel is being less helpful than Dean and Bobby is too busy playing play-doh with his cap and hair. Someone better take the lead. Cas takes a deep breath. "Yes, I believe so."
It's less than Sam hoped. He expected a full-blown 'I'm an angel of the Lord that can do anything and this child is a miracle' reaction, not something so unsure, so… human.
It seems to be enough for Dean, who looks up at Cas, a small smile on his lips.
Bobby, on the other hand, suddenly snaps out of his reverie and slams his hand hard on the table.
"This!" He takes a deep breath, as though unsure of what he's saying. "I won't stay here listening to this garbage! This…" he points at Dean "It's an abomination, that's what it is!"
With that he stalks out of the house, slamming the door behind him.
They all stare silently at the door, while outside the tires of Bobby's pick-up screech as he leaves.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's two hours since Bobby left. They're all outside on the porch, the late August afternoon hot and clammy. Dean is venting out his rage on every single can he can find in the yard, his sawed-off shooting fast and precise. Sam and Cas are watching him in silence, while Gabriel is eating popcorn out of huge bucket he conjured, eyes wide.
When Bobby returns, he walks back to the porch and throws Dean a small drugstore paper bag. Dean grabs it, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Prenatal vitamins. They're supposed to be good for ya," Bobby says, walking inside.
Dean stares for a couple of seconds, before running after Bobby.
"The hell, Bobby?" he yells. They all follow him.
"What do you mean 'the hell,' boy?" Bobby yells back. Gabriel hands Sam the popcorn bucket, saying this is better than any soap opera he’s ever seen. Sam bats the bucket away. "Isn't this what you want?"
"You…" Dean shakes his fists clenched at his sides and for a moment it looks like he's going to punch Bobby. Sam steps forward. "Are you kidding me? You said this was an abomination! Is that what you think? And now this?"
Bobby looks at him and sighs. He raises his hands.
"Listen, boy," he says, calmer this time. "I'm no modern guy. I know jack-squat about being politically correct. But I'm a hunter and I know what family is for hunters. You find family anywhere you can. Mine?" He looks around. "It's a recovering demon-blood addict and,” he looks pointedly at Dean "A pregnant dude! If ya told me ya wanted to adopt a kid with Cas? Damn, I'd be the one getting you fake IDs and writing the best damned cover letter in the world." His shoulders slump. "But this, son, this is dangerous. It's something that’s never happened before, and that scares me. So sue if I wanna protect my family. I thought you'd know about that, Dean. I sure hope you will in a few months."
Dean doesn't say anything for a while. He just plays with the bag in his hands. Finally he takes the bottle out and looks at it.
"So… These are chewable?"
Bobby shrugs.
"Makes you less sick. Or so the lady at the store said."
"Okay." Dean nods. "Thanks, Bobby."
Dean turns to Sam and raises his eyebrows at him, the left corner of his lips quirking up. And the only thing Sam can do is grin back at him. He's going to be an uncle. Sure, this is not the way he ever thought it would happen, but still: their lives. Stranger things have happened.
"Drinks are on me!" Gabriel says, clapping his hands and making champagne appear on the kitchen table. "Non-alcoholic, Dean."
"Damn!"
Sam laughs and turns looking for Cas, ready to clap him on the back, because hey, the angel is going to be a dad too. But when he finally sees him, several feet away from them all, he notices something is wrong. For all that Dean is looking happier than Sam has ever seen him, Cas is looking equally miserable. Actually, he looks downright angry.
Son of a bitch.
