Oh man, this is so incredibly sweet and lovely and wonderful. <3 I love the description of older Jon, and Neil's inner turmoil. And of course, sleepy reunion snuggles. :D

I can't get over how lovely and gorgeous this is. You know I love the grey-bearded Jon bits, and others, but I didn't say what a perfect mix of sweet and sexy and just a bit hurty this bit is:

Neil tiptoes to the edge of the bed and slides under the covers as quietly as he can. Jon turns towards him like a flower to the sun, his arm snaking around Neil’s waist and his bristly face nuzzling against his neck, snuffling wetly against Neil’s sensitive skin. He’s so warm, like a furnace, all sleep heavy and comfortingly familiar. He’s not awake yet but he will be, soon, and it’ll be good - the hot intensity of his gaze, his murmured endearments, his searching hands, his hungry mouth. The sex they have when Neil comes home is always good, pretty amazing, in fact, but it doesn’t quite make up for all those weeks without it, without him. If you were to add them all up, all the assignments back to back, how long would it be? Three years? Five? It seems ludicrously long, and Neil isn’t sure he wants to do it anymore.

I kind of have a picture in my mind of the major events of their lives, and I had a lot more in there at first that was just exposition about what they've been up to that I ended up taking out because it was kind of unnecessary to say all of that in this one ficlet. I guess I'll just have to keep on writing in this verse... such a hardship! XD

Oh, this is perfect!
Their relationship is so lovely. They're able to make it work despite everything they went through at the start and the time spent apart throughout. And Neil's decision at the end made me all warm and fuzzy.
