Okay, I really, REALLY like the sound of this book. From your description it's like Faust meets Mr. Dark from Something Wicked This Way Comes. I have got to get my hands on it and read it right away. Thanks for introducing it to me :-D
I felt pretty much the same way you did. What was in the book was awesome. It's what the author left out that bugged me. It really does seem like part two of a trilogy, and there were a couple of things I was sure were going to be buried guns that just turned out to be gum on the mantel. It also kind of bugged me that, of all the places to be teleported by the Devil, Johannes gets sent to the one derelict satanic carnival train within walking distance of the crypt his brother is locked in. I would have liked there to have been a few more carnival chapters too.
It's weird though, for all of its problems it's still a really fun read. I think I went through it in like two sittings.
This book sounds awesome but I am awfully worried about your caveats. I don't have problems with unrevealed events but I hate sequels and otherwise unfinished stories, and it seems like this one leaves the territory of "mysterious" and goes straight into "unfinished." And so I am torn because as per all the other comments, it does sound like a hell of a lot of fun. TBR or not TBR, that is the question...
