food is one of the few unifying factors that all people have. We all sing and dance and tell stories, we all have children, and we all eat :-) Well, they could be unifying... perhaps I should say universal. :-/

Interesting point that he doesn't deal with the processed food industry. As it's titled "A History," you could be right about him not wanting to project too much into the future.

Sounds like this book would be a good one for fantasy writers/world-builders to read (as research, I mean).
