Mr. Darcy’s Dream

by Elizabeth Aston

In 2003, Elizabeth Aston launched Mr. Darcy’s Daughters, a sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. The book did quite well, and she’s been merrily expanding the series ever since. Her latest book, Mr. Darcy’s Dream, is the sixth book in the series.

Their problems resolve suddenly, literally the last event in the book (sorry if I spoiled it for anyone, but Aston’s fans know that she has a happy-ending formula) and even though you know the reconciliation is coming, it appears out of nowhere.

Interestingly, I've found that Austen's own books often work out that way as well!

That's true, but hers at least seem to make sense. Like, in P&P Darcy and Elizabeth have both had plenty of pages to work through their various issues before the big final get-together in the last 5 pages or whatever it was. This one, Phoebe goes straight from "OMG I don't want to see him I don't know what to do aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!" to "Oh my ETERNAL love!" in like three paragraphs.

I'll look Pamela Aidan up. You're not the first person to recommend her :)

I'm way behind on the books I -should- be reading, and this just makes me want to get around to it faster. I think I'll try to read Pride and Prejudice soon, and then get into these books (and P&P&Zombies) afterwards. Perhaps I'll even be able to get my sister to enjoy these.

Thanks so much for the review, and though the series seems to have some problems, I think I'll still enjoy it.
