Do I talk about Neil Gaiman too much?  Sometimes I worry about that.  But not really, because he's pretty awesome.

Anyway.  He was on The Colbert Report and it was just fantastic.  Why?  Well, mainly, because he can keep up with Stephen Colbert.  A lot of the time, Colbert's interviews seem a little flat to me because the visitors just seem rather ( Read more... )

I had a fortune to actually meet Gaiman years ago when he visited one of the FinnCons. Very nice man. He sit with us late at night talking about his stories.

In addition to reading aloud the story where an old lady find the Holy Grail in a flea marker...

I don't care for Colbert. I couldn't watch much of anything with him on it.

John Stewart on the other hand...

For me, it's definitely an uneven love. I hate to miss a single episode of The Daily Show, but The Colbert Report I really only watch once a week or so. I enjoy him in small doses, and every once in a while he has wickedly funny interviews.

I saw it last night and laughed hysterically. I loved at the end when Neil swore. XD

"Do I talk about Neil Gaiman too much?"

I think the appropriate question is, "Why don't other people talk about Neil Gaiman enough?" :P

I love Neil. It was an absolutely brilliant interview. My favorite part was, "Obviously until you write, 'Fuck It - We're All Going To Die,' the Newbury Award is going to go to people like me, Stephen." <3

I think probably what happens is that the guests are sitting around all day backstage with Stephen Colbert the regular human being, and then all of a sudden they have to deal with Stephen Colbert the character in front of a couple hundred people. Both Stephen Colberts are trying to pack as much information and comedy as possible into a short five to seven minute segment, and it seems that a lot of guests--especially the career politicians--just can't change gears that fast. At least, that would be my best guess as to why so many of Colbert's guests seem to get bowled over in the interviews.
