The Fire and the Light: A Novel of the Cathars and the Lost Teachings of Christ ext_17227 October 15 2008, 15:21:55 UTC
Mr. Craney has at our request correctly amended his video and press releases to clearly state this is a work of fiction taking some liberties with historical fact. While Esclarmonde de Foix, was a Perfectae greatly loved and respected for her deep faith, she was not a "high priestess" whatsoever. The medieval Cathar movement did not have 'high priests' or 'high priestesses' at all. She did not lead the church. It was a community that stressed equality among all and rejected these superstitious trappings.

Mr. Craney is to be commended for a wonderfully written book of fiction and we hope readers are touched by this story to discover the historical reality of Esclarmonde de Foix in bona fide scholarly works.

Thanks for the review - the book does sound interesting, but I find it better to read a book that may drag a bit in parts after reading reviews, because I often enjoy them better knowing those things!

Ooh, this sounds really cool. I've struggled with Labyrinth (tried to read it on again/off again and just kept getting annoyed with the main characters), but I keep coming back to it because I find the entire Cathar/Templar/Grail business completely fascinating and I know so little about it. This is definitely going on the TBR pile!
