This book sounds really interesting; I'll have to add it to my "To Read" list!

It sounds quite good :) I do think there is a strong case for now returning the Elgin marbles (pleased as I am to have them in my UK), demonstrated by, of all people, Christopher Hitchens -- boy, does he get around! He's a good historian, though; maybe he should stick to that.

While I am not normally into romances I do love the time period and pretty much anything Roman or Greek, so I might have to slip this one in there....Either way the cover is pretty ;D

So how does Mary live outside of the natural law? From your review she sounds like an obedient wife and well liked, not opposed by society.

I didn't mention it in the review because it was a bit of a spoiler, but Mary eventually ends up leaving her husband for another man in a rather messy divorce. He ends up virtually penniless and alone, and has to sell off his beloved marbles for far less than he thought they were worth. Before that, she had a habit of going out to the theatre or eating dinner in the company of other men while her husband was out of town, and this was apparently quite shocking and inappropriate at the time.
