Eh, I don't know if you've read Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire, but I view that series more as pseudo-historical fiction, rather than a hard-core fantasy. So while I haven't read any of Druon's novels, they don't sound all that far apart to me (minus the dragons, face swapping, and ice zombies, of course XD).

I haven't yet had the pleasure of Martin's series, but Game of Thrones is currently in the TBR pile. Since I enjoyed The Iron King, Martin's book has been bumped up and I hope to get to it by May.
