The Heretic's Daughter

Once upon a time in the dreary town of Salem, hysteria struck the people and blighted their reputation forever.   Regardless of what they’d done before, and what they accomplished since, Salem will forever be known for the witch hunts of 1692. The trials have been a black mark upon the community for ( Read more... )

I've got this one to review, but I'm trying to put it off until closer to the release date! I'm glad you said it was enjoyable because I hated the Scarlet Letter!

I'm a lot fonder of The Scarlet Letter in my memories than I think I was when I actually read it. I remember it being pretty good and enjoying it, yet I can't help but suspect that isn't the case. I read another of Hawthorne's books somewhat recently (within the past 1-3 years) called The Marble Faun and I hated it.

This is on my bookshelf; I, too, am trying to wait until closer to the release date to read/review it. Insightful review; yes, it sounds like a newer, more readable spin on the events of the day.

I couldn't agree more with your line about finding the secrets lurking in our past - I've done extensive research on my family history and have great primary source documents including Civil War Pension files that tell tales that would make Jerry Springer blush!

That's so cool; I wish my family had saved documents from that far back. Actually, we do on my mother's side, but they're all in Chinese and not a soul in my family can read them. Pretty sad, eh?

I can't wait to read your review - pop me a note when you post it if I don't manage to find it on my own!

I actually really enjoyed Anna Karenina, but not as much as I like Dostoevsky. I have a thing for Russian Lit though :-)

I think Russian Lit scares me, I have a lot of it around but I can't think of any I've actually read. Except Lolita. Nobokav was Russian, right?

(Running off to Wikipedia to check...)
