News: Monsters are taking over the Classics!

Feb 09, 2010 08:30

With the publish date of the  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies prequel rapidly approaching, I wandered over to Amazon.com this morning to see when the books would be arriving in stores, which will be around March 24th.  Yay!  So that's all fine and dandy.  I'm actually looking forward to this prequel, which will explain just how the zombies came to infect Jane Austen's England in the first place.  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls will be 100% original material, it'll be interesting if any traces of Austen remain.

But you know how Amazon has the 'related recommendations' whenever you look at a book?  I gave those a quick glance and was blown away by just how many "monster mash-up" books have been published in the past year.  Consider the following:

JANE AUSTEN + A MONSTER

- Mansfield Park + Mummies
- Emma + Werewolves
- Pride&Prejudice +Vampires
- Jane Austen herself + Vampires
- and of course Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, which launched the whole craze, and Sense & Sensibility &Sea Monsters

Sick of Jane Austen, but still want in on this zombie thing?  No problem, there are plenty of books for you, too!

A CLASSIC + ZOMBIES

- Huckleberry Finn...and Zombies!
- War of the Worlds...and Zombies!
- The Wizard of Oz...and Zombies!
- Robin Hood...and Zombies!

I probably didn't look hard enough, but there didn't seem to be any classic + a non-zombie monster mash-ups...yet.

So...have any of you guys read any of the books in this trend?  What'd ya think?
Here's links to my reviews of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies and Sense & Sensibility &Sea Monsters in case you missed them the first time around.
