Discussion Question: Favorite Book of 2010? (so far!)

Jul 10, 2010 20:34

What's your favorite book that you've read this year?

Across the Nightingale Floor and the subsequent volumes in the Tales of the Otori series are my favorite discovery for 2010.  The series isn't new - Nightingale Floor is from 2002 - but it was new to me.  It had everything - action, suspense, romance, and ninjas.  Everything is awesome when there are ninjas.  And samurai.  But mostly ninja.

Out of the books I've read that were published in 2010, I think the best of the bunch was Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok.  I usually enjoy immigration stories, because they're often infused with a sense of optimism that American natives seem to have lost.  Besides, it's always nice to hear/read about someone who succeeds because they worked hard and did their best, rather than being handed the world on a silver platter.
