Job hunting/whining.

So I'm going to take the window closing for no reason whatsoever halfway though my online application to Hastings as a sign from GOD that I'm not suppossed to work there again.  I mean, it wasn't terrible, but maybe a step backwards since it's been almost three years since I was there, and I've since gotten a degree.  Even though I know talented, ( Read more... )

whining, real life

Though your icon is tres awesome indeed, I must disagree with it. You are not whining- there are people out there, as you well know, with master's and PhD's who can't find work in their chosen fields. If you have to work somewhere not artsy-related for a while, so be it. School starts again before you know it, and hopefully over the summer other art jobs will become available.
Question: have you checked out summer camps, especially ones with disadvantaged, or disabled kids? They are always summer positions up here for art program directors/instructors.
Also, have you given any thought to moving to a larger centre, where there may be more Fine Art opportunities?

And don't forget that God has left the building, and it is that fucker Zachariah running the show. Try the online applications again, it is either Skynet or rogue angels fucking with you ;)

The icon is indeed awesome. ;)

I don't mind working in a non artsy field for a while. The timing is what's the most annoying right now, but I'll deal. One of my friends who works in the school bookstore is waiting to hear from a more grown-up job. If she gets/takes it then I'll probably have an in there.

Yeah, def a hard time to find a job.

Not to be sneaky (she said while about to suggest something sneaky) but do you have a friend or relative who could, as a last resort, give you the 'proof' of employment you need for the apartment in case nothing has appeared by then?

I'd try Hastings again, step backwards or no, just because it'll give you that proof of employment, which seems to be step number one. Plus, you can always keep job hunting while working there.

Good luck!

Hee, we've already thought about being sneaky. Neither of us are above it if it comes to that. Yeah, I'll probably try again and keep applying other places. I'm hoping one of my friends gets the grown-up job she's looking at so I can take her place in the bookstore.

Ugh, good luck with the job hunting. That'll suck out your soul (I'm a good motivator, huh?!)

Your 'with a pony' made me think, "You and Misha Collins!" and his fucking hilarious Twittering.

The man is having way too much fun with Twitter. And I have too much fun reading it. I'm finding it hard to remember life with Supernatural before Misha.

Yeah, I agree I couldnt run a register or something forever. It'll just be a before-grad-school-still-figuring-things-out-job.

I was feeling sorry for you until you mentioned the pony. ;) No, seriously, it has to suck out loud looking for a job in this terrible economy, especially when you're trying to break in for the first time. I'll keep my fingers crossed that something works out PDQ.

Hee, the pony kind of puts a damper on the poor college grad thing. But I don't have to pay for boarding and she never gets sick, so it's actually pretty cheap.

Thanks for the crossed-fingers, I've got an interview tomorrow at the restaurant/catering job I almost gave up on!
