Matters of the heart rarely ever make sense, Lady Athena.

By definition, I suppose.

Personal experience has taught me it is much better to not try to make sense of such things.

It's difficult for me to accept that some things just fly in the face of logic.

They should, but so few of us truly understand the significance of another person in our lives until we are without them. Although I know no more than you do on the matter, I've found that immeasurable distances makes our hearts grow so much fonder.

Dearest Athena, I'm afraid even if you never understand somethings (minor details, really), simple men like me will always envy your intellect. If only I could pick your brain a bit.

I'm certainly pleased to hear that.

Not the brain picking business. The first part I mean. Brain picking sounds rather messy really.

I'm glad. I wish I could show you the extent to which I missed seeing you.

That is a metaphor dear.

You could always come see me, you know.

Well, it's a metaphor with very graphic imagery attached. Isn't there a nicer way to phrase such a thing?

Don't think about it too much.

You've been quiet lately. I haven't seen much of you.

Because it quite obviously doesn't work for them. She's almost gotten her husband killed repeatedly.

I've been... working. A lot.

And spending time with my mother.

Sounds more like the husbands problem to me.

Perhaps you should take a break?

No, that's the Beatles.

Your head is too full of science, sister.

The Beatles...?

And someone's has to be.

A mortal's life is too short for them to achieve more than a fleeting form of petty wisdom, so they take the phrase 'carpe diem' and run with it.

But most of them, I have noticed, are simply too shallow to delve deep enough into matters of the heart. They often mistake one thing for another and that's when all the mistakes are made.

Don't think too much about it, Milady. It'll only give you a headache.

It already has.

I think they're making these mistakes on purpose. Seeing what they want to see. That is common enough.
