This is so damn true, and I admit that I'm just as guilty of it as anyone else out there. Even though he deserves it in my opinion for being a total faction-fapping fuckwad, I do feel bad for bad-talking our friend Northern so much on MMO Champion for being the faction-fapping fuckwad that he is. Would I act like that if I were in front of his face?

I don't know. I like to think I'd be civil but sooner or later we'd likely get into a debate on how much his views of faction superiority don't get along with the lore at all...except in his mind of course. But that is that, as they say.

And LoL at Kippurbird's idea of the counter-cultures. Dark "good" and light "evil" is something that I've toyed with now and then and would still like to do maybe, but the thing is that cultures that are "pure light" or "pure dark" are hard to make believable. Everyone thinks that they're culture is the light one and the other guys are the dark one. :/

PS: I really like your idea of the night culture people and their aversion to daylight. It's something that certainly has potential :)

I think they'd really be very nice people-although they might be misunderstood by diurnal races.  And they'd wear UV body paint.

There are definitely a few members of the WoW fanbase who'd get an earful if I had them in front of me.  Then again, I take pains not to let anonymity go to my head.

And yeah...as a regular at TVTropes-and therefore, someone familiar with some associated themes-I kind of jumped on the opportunity to take the idea to that conclusion.

I like your ideas for a culture, I think that's something that could be explored a LOT more.

When I was in Germany I read a couple of books by a German author who was more in love with setting than plot, and spent an awful lot of time lovingly detailing characters and stuff that largely had no impact on the plot at large... although on the other hand, the characters were the biggest idiots I've ever come across in a book and the plot was rather strained. (I was typing those commentaries on a German keyboard where the Z and Y are on opposite places from where I'm used to and I couldn't be arsed to correct it everytime I made the same mistake, hence the weird spelling
