Here's where I discuss fan fiction.

What I wil not be discussing is the morality or wisdom of writing fan fiction.  Arguments that I’ve heard against fan fiction have invariably been weak:  Either they reduce fans to the status of passive consumers, or they can easily be rebutted by anyone who’s taken a creative writing class.  (For example, I ( Read more... )

Aha, this rant is full of win. You're right, the fanfic honestly sounds readable...just, painful. Some of it would be really interesting, if written well (like the demon child, and her becoming blind), but...ah, bad!fic writers, you make me weep.

Also, draenei = win! When I had access to WoW, I was a Draenei pally. :3 Yay WoW. 'Course, I never learned quite enough about the verse to venture into WoW fanfic.

Yeah, it was readable...just.  Bear in mind that the summary posted here is not a summary of the story; it's the summary of my original summary.  The artist seriously needed to trim out a lot of extraneous material.

I'm working on one or three fanfics myself.  And I've got six draenei-one for each class.  (Yes, I'm a hopeless altaholic.)

On an off note, my post on fanficrants seems to be drawing snide comments.  First it was about the format of my journal and the fact that I linked instead of crossposting.  And after I did copy and paste-with a bit of editing-there was another snide comment.  Is this normal, or did I violate some unspoken "wank" rule?

Ah, writers have such a bad tendency to put everything they have (idea-wise, that is) into a story...I do it, too, but they should at least -try- to trim it. XD

Nice, what would you say your favorite class is? Just out of curiosity.

Well, the members of ffrants tend to jump on people for everything and anything, so I wouldn't take it personally. It's their method of tough-love, or something.

Yeah, I know how that goes.

In my opinion, it's one thing to give background.  It's another to go excessively in-depth on every minor skirmish, every angsty thought that passes through the viewpoint characters' minds, or how shiny the Marty Sam paladin looks in his armor.  (Especially while skimping on other background material-not every WoW player will have gotten to Zangarmarsh before reading the story!)

It's hard to say what my favorite class is.  My main is a shaman, but I've also had fun with several other classes.  However, I've only played one priest and one warlock, and neither beyond very low levels:  The 'lock got deleted at level 5 or 6 (she was a blood elf, and I had a very low sin'dorei tolerance at that point), and the priest just doesn't get out much (so to speak).

In regards to the snark on ffrants:  Thanks for the vote of confidence.
