Ah, but that would involve *work*.

Protests aren't about getting things done - they're about having an excuse for a holiday and looking like you're doing something.

you are right, but in some corner of their mind (and perhaps mind) maybe it would force one of them to have a nervous breakdown and shift their policies.

Which will never happen. No one individual in government *really* makes policy it seems.

An African friend of mine said during the IMF/World Bank protests in Prague that the protesters could have pooled their travel money and paid off the national debt of Burkina Faso.

......

Well now that we have met and I'm going through your LJ...
Already befriended you, hope that wasn't too presumptuous.
Just saw Edinburgh for the first time over New Year's. (The one that got rained out.) Well actually we were in Glasgow on the 31st and went to Edinburgh for a day on the 2nd, which was the one day of sunny weather. We went with a very good friend of ours who lived in Edinburgh 25 years ago and who's now in Glasgow after some years in SE Asia and Prague. (He says at 30 he had an epiphany that he didn't have to spend winters in Scotland) Amazing city, lucky you can live there.
