Progress can be made. The thing is, they have to put enough fuel out for the spark to turning into a inferno. Putting out free information threw blogging, podcasting, and Internet movies. Passing out DVD's and the good old fashioned booklet worked well for me during the 2008 Presidential election as I supported Ron Paul on a restrictive military base. When crap hits the fan people will search for information, you just have to make sure you are there to provide it.
I think often people get frustrated how slow it takes for a movement to pick up ground but as I look back the Libertarian movement (freedom movement) in America his grown a lot since the 90s.
Of course, the evils of big government a controlled economy are heavily grounded in (from what it sounds) Japanese learning, economic, and personal life. It's a real challenge.

I found this post while googling for, oddly, Japanese libertarians. I work for a DC-based libertarian organization, but I'm based in Beijing. I'm not comfortable sharing too much in a blog post, so is there any way you could provide an email address? I'm planning a trip to Japan next year to try to expand our network there, and would love to meet with every and anyone you can recommend.

My email address is fare at tunes dot org.
I can recommend you a couple of japanese libertarian bloggers: * Kyuuri is now at http://libertarian.seesaa.net/ but I don't have a recent email address (you can try leaving a comment on his blog; if you get an answer, I'll be glad to get his new email). * Kenya Kura is at http://www.gifu.shotoku.ac.jp/kkura/ and his email is on his blog.
Other bloggers may be listed on their respective blogrolls.
