closing in on empty spaces
winners laugh too soon
a paper world with paper faces
beneath a paper moon

there's a man, a real pacesetter
coming after me
and after him there's someone better and
after him there's me

he'll offer you a cigarette
he'll offer you a light
but he hasn't finished with you yet
on another long, knife night

so look behind you
there's the man you're chasing
look behind you
let's go human racing
human racing
let's go racing now

open arms and open purses
open season's here
fill your heads with clever verses
and then they disappear

silent vows in secret places
they'll get you somehow
cos you never win in human races
so who's the loser now

look behind you
there's the man you're casing
look behind you
let's go human racing
human racing
let's go racing now

That song has beautiful lyrics. Whoever made the music video was very excited about computer graphics though. It is mildly hilarious. His mullet only makes it ten times better.

Well, MTV didn't exist before 1981. This video is around 1983/84. The graphics would have been new and exciting. You have to remember, there always has to be a first time. Also, mullets were quite the style at the time. They didn't even begin to lose their stride until the late eighties. And then became shameful, yet amazingly still prevalent in the early nineties. There ends your history lesson. ::smiles::

Yes, the lyrics are amazing. I happen to find the melody to be lovely as well. I think I'm going to do an acoustic cover.

I would love to hear that. I have always preferred acoustic sounds. It comes from growing up around guitars, I suppose.
