Jun was studying the picture on his wall as he heard knock on the door. “Come in” He went to his seat as he heard his door open and someone walking in.
“Matsumoto-san, here he is” as the staff closed the door, he turned and faced a smiling figure in front of him. He’s wearing a very bright orange t-shirt with outworn black jeans. His hair a bit messy and a nervous smile never left his face. His eyes widen as it fell on the boy’s face but he covered it quickly.
“Sit down” he said nodding to the chair in front of him. After nearly tumbling to coffee table, sofa and other furniture; the boy finally seated in front of him. He heard the boy apologized several times too. Then the boy seems lost in his world, frowning here and there.
“Ah, it’s you” Aiba suddenly said after a few minutes of silent. “Don’t you remember? We’ve met once. You need to use phone coz your phone’s dead or something….” Aiba kept talking as Jun trying hard to forget that he too remembers him.
“Not really” Jun said cutting Aiba’s babbling.
“….you know. I wonder what happen to you since you just left the next morning….” Aiba stopped after he heard him only to continue “Eh, you’re not? But you look just like him. With-”
“Excuse me but can we back to business” Jun cutting in to stop Aiba from continued bubbling.
“Ah, sorry” looking down to his shoes he felt guilty.
Jun clear his throat
“Do you know why you’re here?”
---
Aiba walked through the playground before sitting on the bench near the swing. Not that he ungrateful that he finally found a job, but he felt rather weird of his meeting with Matsumoto Jun. he thought that Matsumoto-san was the guy the met a few years ago but he seems different. Not face-different but attitude-different. The guy was very friendly and nice but Matsumoto-san seems cold and unfriendly. He can not be mistaken since this town is so small everyone knows anyone. Looking at the piece of paper in his hand, his mind wonders.
The store has been opening all day now but not a single customer. He sat in front of the store wiping the glass after finished rearranging the stock. Humming to himself, his hands move upward and downward in steady rhythm.
“Excuse me, can you help me?” Aiba turned to the voice beside him. A good-looking guy smiling down at him. A customer, at last.
“Yes…?” Aiba raised from his seat and faced the guy. He wiped his hand on a piece of cloth beside him. He can see sweat running down from the guy’s forehead. Behind him, the sound of an engine roaring. He glanced behind the guy and saw a very nice sport car. Wow, he thought. He must be very rich. He smiled politely and focused on the figure in front of him.
“Can you tell me where the he-… I mean where the closest public phone is?”
“Ah, of course. Come in.” Aiba pulled his hands inside the store. “By the way, I’m Aiba Masaki you can call me Aiba-chan or Masaki. I work at this store. Boss just left to attend his niece’s wedding. I wonder why he bothers to open this store today coz…” he started babbling.
“Sorry but I’m in a hurry.”
“Nonsense. I insist you stay” not getting any respond from Jun, he begged “please stay…”
No one can resist his puppy eyes, Aiba thought as smiled widely when Jun agree to stay for a while. They chatted and had a drink afterward and they end up sleeping together. He woke up the next morning to found that Jun already left and send someone to pick his car.
“It must be him. I’ve never mistaken anyone before” Aiba mumbled to himself. “I gotta stop bringing anyone home” he signed as he walked home.
---
Upon seeing Aiba, Jun’s mind flying through time few years back. He indeed met this boy before. But he just can’t let him figure out that. He had his reasons.
After arguing with his father, Jun decided to drive around to clear his mind. After a few hour driving he heard a loud ‘pop’ sound coming from below. He pulled over to check the origin of the sound.
“DAMN, this is just great!!!” he yelled and kicked the tire. “Just what I wanted, a flat tyre…”
Seeing the sign ‘THE ISOLATED TOWN 2km’, he frowned at the name and decided to drive there despite his tyre condition. As he entered the town he saw someone sitting in front of the store doing something. Not that he care. He parked his car near the store and step out.
He can see that someone is a boy as he getting closer. Giving his best smile, he greet the boy politely “Excuse me, can you help me?”
“Please help yourself, I made it myself. I’ll be right back.” Jun stared at the cupcakes on the plate in front of him. How can I agree with him, he signed as he took a bite at one and surprised that it’s really good. This is where he lives, he thought as he looked around the house. The walls full of pictures of cute animals and small stuff animal in every single corner of the house. So much for a guy, he thought.
“Ah, I’m sorry Matsujun. The line is dead. This only happen here you know, since it’s far from city. But don’t worry; the line’ll be on in few hours. It always does.” Aiba said reassuring him.
Matsujun, the name Aiba thought for him. Aiba said Matsumoto Jun is too long and since Jun doesn’t want Aiba to call him Jun since they just met, Aiba come up with this name. He doesn’t think that this kind of people exists, but they do.
“In the mean time, why don’t we get to know each other huh…” Aiba smile as he brought out a few can of beer and sat in front of Jun.
He doesn’t know how long they stay up that night. After chatting and drinking, he decided only to stay a few hours before continuing his journey. But he end up sleeping and something happen. Something he wanted to forget.
