And the possibility of grace: BSG Finale

Mar 20, 2009 21:59

Wow. I mean, just wow. Not perfect, but so much better than I imagined possible.

One of the things I've loved about this show is that it so often doesn't go where I think it's going. The finale was a fabulous example of that.

Cut for spoilers, obviously )

You are so right, about this show not going where you think it will. Before this ep aired, I literally was thinking, this is going to be so ridiculously boring and predictable, and they made me cry three times AND totally subverted what I thought was going to happen. WHICH IS AWESOME!! And I'm so thrilled that you picked up on the use of the theme, too. I was thinking maybe I was the only person on LJ old enough to remember it. (And I was thinking of the voiceover, too! The applicable part, re "There are those who believe that life here began out there...Far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans." OH YES. :D

And ITA about the meditation on the possibility of grace, too. That is a very excellent observation.

Stumbled over here from your comments in destina's LJ and yes to everything you've said.

I always thought I'd hate a happy ending for BSG but I loved it more than I thought i ever would and mostly, as you so beautifully summarise, for the meditation on the possibility of grace.
