I read quite a bit of Lackey, but the only Tregarde novel I read I found to be pathetic (Burning Water). Lackey is hit or miss in my opinion. If you want more of a hit, try her Valdemar series or her Elemental Masters series.

I can't stand Valdemar either (or, at least, the books I tried, which were the early ones, so maybe she gets better).

Tho I would have loved them at 15 - however, I found them at 25.

I did outgrow them a bit, but still remember them fondly. :) And the early ones were the better ones. Try Elemental Masters. Hubby even liked those. They do follow traditional fairy tale plots (Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, etc,) but with an overlying theme. If they are not to your taste, Lackey probably isn't for you. :)
