of course, now that my eyes are gummy from dryness because they're busy healing (left eye is doing okay, right eye is still blurry, and i'm not sure it's from the healing... i think that's just what i'm stuck with) my dad tells me he'd like me to do some sewing things for the new shop. i have to make one of those red banners... not a big deal, ( Read more... )

...that you should be doing such close work so soon after surgery?

That said, you continue to amaze me with the sewing projects that you tackle.

Well, the gunny sack I made for my brother's rubber seeds turned out okay. But man the hemming project was AWFUL. The thread kept on breaking and I suspect it has to do with the tension of the machine on the fabric, but I couldn't figure out how to release the tension. >_< So many stops because of it, for what should have been a straightforward job. Not to mention the whole caper figuring out how to fill the bobbin again.

I do think that I'm just temperamentally unsuited for LASIK now though XD You remember how we would go HOURS just sewing? and when I'm in that zone I blink fairly rarely, so all of a sudden I'm blinking and my eyes are gummy from dryness!

Can you post a picture of the machine.

There should be a round tension knob right in the front as you string the thread through. That is one of the best ways to adjust tension

Oh, and length of stitch will affect tension as well

And yeah, we put in some 10 hour sewing days there.

Your eyes shouldn't be giving you that much trouble; be sure your not overtaxing them too early

I tried that tension knob... it made things worse D: I gotta work with it some more in order to really figure it out. And I kind of don't want to! In case I break it.
