of course, now that my eyes are gummy from dryness because they're busy healing (left eye is doing okay, right eye is still blurry, and i'm not sure it's from the healing... i think that's just what i'm stuck with) my dad tells me he'd like me to do some sewing things for the new shop. i have to make one of those red banners... not a big deal,

I do think that I'm just temperamentally unsuited for LASIK now though XD You remember how we would go HOURS just sewing? and when I'm in that zone I blink fairly rarely, so all of a sudden I'm blinking and my eyes are gummy from dryness!

There should be a round tension knob right in the front as you string the thread through. That is one of the best ways to adjust tension
Oh, and length of stitch will affect tension as well
And yeah, we put in some 10 hour sewing days there.
Your eyes shouldn't be giving you that much trouble; be sure your not overtaxing them too early
