The Causeway - Sunday evening

Jun 28, 2009 18:27

As much as he wasn't looking forward to this day, it was here, and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. It was time to go.

Savannah was quiet as they walked, wishing more than anything that this day had never come. She decided as they walked that she was going to do her best not to break down in front of Johnny. She was hurting, but she would do her best to keep a smile on her face.

His thumb caressed her hand as he held it, giving it a faint squeeze every so often.

"You have my number, Reed's, Sue's, Ben's... right?" he asked, again.

She nodded. "I have all those numbers and the main building number too," her voice was soft as she pulled out the Blackberry he bought her and showed him that all of those were programmed in.

Taking it from her, he checked all the numbers, making sure they were right. And then he double-checked. Damn OCD was getting the best of him here. Satisfied, he handed it back with a short nod. "They're right. And if you can't get in touch with me, who do you call?" There was a chain here. Sue was always first.

"If I can't reach you, I'm supposed to call Sue first and tell her that I need you." Her voice was soft. "If it's a bad situation, I tell her I'm in trouble."

Yes, they had gone over this already, but she knew it made him feel better right now. Of course, their definitions of bad could be wildly different.

He nodded. "Right."

Yes, he knew. He also needed to quit being paranoid.

"Things are going to be great, Savannah. Your senior year will be awesome, so make the most of it, and have a damn good time."

She smiled. "Of course. I'm a senior, I can relax a bit on taking classes. I've gotten three colleges that I need to send in early applications to with my portfolio. K-Mart will be keeping an eye on me for you. It... it will be fine."

"It will, sweetheart. It'll be better than fine," he said, encouraging her. "I'll come back when I can and you can visit. We can head off to that island when it's convenient for both of us. The year will fly, baby."

She nodded, dropping her eyes. "Maybe I can come see you on the next break before the fall session starts. The Pack wanted me to come visit them then, but I could do that on a weekend instead when I'm not working."

"I would welcome it, seriously," he replied, mentally knocking off the days till then. "I promise Ben won't give you shit." He said that because it amused him and he wanted to make this situation a step up from emo.

That made her laugh softly. "Ben never gives me shit," she grinned. "He likes me. He thinks I'm a sweetheart."

He quirked a brow, grinning at her. "Oh yeah? Should I be worried about the rock?"

"No," she giggled. "You're the only super hero I have room for in my heart and my life."

"Ben is not a superhero," he smirked. "He's just one rock away from a landslide."

Johnny knew this, he just couldn't help the rock jokes. They were awesome! Come on!

"He thinks so too," he joked. But okay, enough of picking on the thing when he wasn't here.

"You got any plans for this week since there are no classes?"
