A couple of MOTW episodes now - the first is not much-loved - but perhaps you would like to defend it? The second introduces Snyder, the Principal we all love to hate.

Okay, I need to defend I Robot, You Jane, if only because we get to see Willow being badass and slamming Moloch with a fire extinguisher. C'mon, folks. You have to at least give the episode big points for that.

It's dated badly because of the technology, and the very clunky message, but Willow going apeshit is always worth seeing - possibly the first time we see her getting physical in that way. And she's so adorable when she's in love, even with a demon.

"I Robot, You Jane" was never one of my favorite episodes. But it did give me a wonderful opportunity to discuss how bad the web could be with my children. So I never saw it as a completely useless episode.

Gonna talk about the clothes for a second. They were so awful in the 1st season. I'm sure this was due to a very tight budget but UH. I decided that Sunnydale High must not have had a student dress code. Not only are the skirts and dresses WAY too short (I wouldn't have let my daughter out of my house wearing something that short) but the students also appear in sleeveless shirts. This is not allowed in the schools around here. In fact, I once had to bring my daughter another shirt to wear one day because the t-shirt she had on revealed *part* of her armpit.

Hmmm...maybe there was a bad 60's fashion fad going around Sunnydale that year?

I loved Giles/Jenny!

It's a bit clunky and the technology is dated, but the points it makes are still valid, even if not all internet friends are axe murderers. (Quite a few have stayed with me here and, lo, not a single axe murder.)

I do feel Joyce ought to intervene with Buffy about her clothes. I'm glad they become saner later. Here, of course, almost all kids wear uniform from age 5 onwards, so it's not an issue..

I Robot, You Jane isn't my favourite ep of the season, but it's certainly not the worst, IMO (Teacher's Pet is my pick for that dubious honour).

If nothing else, IRYJ contains the wonderful scene by the fountain at the end. Worth watching for that alone.

The Puppet Show on the other hand is my favourite season 1 standalone. Snyder! Giles having to run the talent show! Buffy, Willow and Xander doing Oedipus! All hilarious. I even like Sid the puppet.

What IS that face Willow makes while scanning? "I'm being a good girl doing stuff that's really boring for Mr Giles" face?

I do hate puppets, but I manage to cope with this one, for some reason. Haven't managed to re-watch it yet though.
