This is gorgeous. Dark without being explicit and in many ways, that makes it worse. The section about the breeding program was shiveringly powerful. Fred is logical and careful and your voice for her is spot on.

Lovely, lovely stuff.

In my head, this fic is Fred putting one foot in front of the other, sequentially. Very slow, and very hesistant, and thinking everything through before she completes it. Because otherwise Bad Things will happen to her. Again.

Dark indeed. A different look at Fred. I like it (in a poor Fred kind of way).

Thanks. She's not just comedy and sweetness, is she? Or she shouldn't be.

Chilling, m'dear. It's implied in the series that she has good reasons for her crazy, of course, but seeing them laid out like this makes me want to wrap her in cotton batting.

she defused the mechanism, certain there was a failsafe she hadn’t spotted and she was about to be blown to kingdom come, wherever that might be, so that she stood frozen for about a half-hour

Much as I love the Pylea arc, the metaphor of cruelty, enslavement, and demonization is...not all that metaphorical. *shakes impotent fist at all the bad things*

Yep. Any place that rejects Lorne and enslaves Fred is a place I want no part of. Except for the fic part.
