He passes under the barrier tape, excited and nervous. This is where he can impress her with his mad underdog skills!

Buffy has exposed the darkness, and he brings flashlights. Vampires? Not so impressed with the flashlight and consequently, Buffy? Not so impressed with the Xander.

But this isn’t darkness. Well

Rewatching the episode, I wondered why Xander would step up with that, "allow me, little lady" attitude. This is my way of trying to explain it, I guess!

Xander always bites off more than he can chew (sorry) and he always does it with the best of intentions. Trouble is, good intentions never work against evil, just like flashlights don't. Still, he'll have his shining moment soon - and he still won't get what he wants.

I think you've really caught Xander in this trilogy. Good show!
