See the thing about Veruca for me was the understanding of the origin of her name in the word "verruca," and no way the writer who chose this name didn't understand that too. I know. I know. Willy Wonka, but there too, behind the girl's name is the meaning of the word. So the minute she showed up in BtVS with that name, she was bad news. It's less clear to Americans, but Brits knew.

Yes, it's pretty hard to take her seriously with the name. But I doubt we were ever supposed to like her, even if she'd had a slower build as originally planned.
